Veysi Dag
Veysi Dag is a postdoc researcher of the research project, “Migration Governance and Asylum Crises (MAGYC)” at SOAS. Prior to his academic career, Veysi worked as a journalist and reporter for the newspapers. In 2005, he began to study Political Science at the Free University of Berlin and International Relations at the University of Kent in Canterbury. He focused in his diploma thesis on construction of the Kurdish diaspora identities and communities in Berlin and London. In 2013, he began to build on his research into his doctoral thesis at the Free University of Berlin and to investigate the transnational activism of stateless Kurdish diasporas in Berlin, London and Stockholm. He looked at the motivations, opportunities and challenges for Kurdish diaspora activism in the city context. In April 2016, he completed his doctoral thesis and worked at the Department of Political Science of the FU Berlin as a research associate. Veysi´s research interests include studies of migration and diaspora, social movement and transnationalism, comparative politics with a focus on refugee and migration policies in Europe, peace-building and conflict transformation, and regional policy analysis with a focus on Middle Eastern politics and Kurdish-Turkish conflict.
